Membership & Guest Information

Guest Access Checklist

  1. First, we clear you to visit the range as a guest. We take your name, address, phone numbers, date of birth, and email address and do a background check.
  2. After the background check is completed, we send you an email clearing you to visit the range.
  3. On your first visit, you must complete a waiver and show your driver’s license and firearms ID.
  4. There is a $20.00 fee to shoot as a guest.
  5. If you are interested in membership, you must shoot with us several times on various nights and demonstrate safe gun handling and reasonable competency- a range officer will then propose you for membership at the next executive meeting.
  6. If approved, there is a $25.00 application fee. The application fee may be waived for military and law enforcement personnel. You will be notified and offered membership.

the Membership Process

  1. It is important to note that membership is not automatic. A visitor must pass a background check and
demonstrate safe gun handling and basic firearms skill over several visits before membership is offered.
  2. It is also important to note that PASJ was founded by and for law enforcement personnel. We still have a core
of law enforcement members and accordingly expect all members to be “professional” in their conduct and
    handling and interest of firearms.
  3. To visit the range, it is best if the visitor contacts PASJ by phone or email and sets up an appointment. Walk-
ins without prior arrangement are at the Range Officer’s discretion. We prefer to do a background check
    before someone visits the range.
  4. A visitor must have NJ Firearms ID or be with someone that has one if they do not have their own firearms.
NJ residents may not shoot personal firearms if they do not have a NJFID since they cannot legally transport
them. Proof of application will serve as provisional status. Active and retired law enforcement personnel are
exempt from this requirement. Firearms ID’s or other appropriate ID’s from other states will be honored if the
applicant is not a NJ resident.
  5. An exception to item 4 may be granted to a novice shooter taking a class who does not own a firearm if an
instructor is willing to work with him/her.
  6. Visitor should review and sign a waiver if one is not already on file.
  7. Visitor should be given a copy of PASJ range rules and an NRA safety brochure.
  8. These forms are in stacked bins at the front of the meeting room.
  9. A background check will be performed for anyone visiting the range. It will verify person’s address, contact
information, lack of criminal activity and seek indications of personal and financial probity. The visitor will be
notified if check results are unacceptable.
  10. The visitor’s name will be added to the approved guest list kept in the notebook by the range log. This
formalizes their status and gives members a chance to review the list for comments in case they know or
know of the applicant. Only those passing the background check (item 8) make this list.
  11. There is a $20.00 fee for each visitor’s visit.
  12. Encourage the visitor seeking membership to try different nights to meet a cross section of members and
    range officers.
  13. After a visitor has shot with us several times and has demonstrated safe gun handling and reasonable
competency, a range officer may propose the visitor for membership at the next executive meeting. If
approved, there is a $25.00 application fee. The application fee may be waived for military and law
enforcement personnel. Applicant will be notified and offered membership.
  14. If membership is still desired, a letter with a prorated bill will be mailed or emailed to the applicant.
Membership runs to end of current year.
  15. Upon receiving payment, a membership card will be sent.
  16.  NRA membership is encouraged but not required. Reduced rates for new or renewal NRA memberships are
    available through PASJ.
